Plant profile
Miracle Fruit
A conversation-piece tropical that changes sour flavors sweet and rewards growers who can provide acidic media.
Why growers like it
Miracle fruit is memorable. The berries contain miraculin, which temporarily changes how sour foods taste, making lemons and other acidic foods seem sweet.
Best fit
This is usually best grown in a container where soil pH, moisture, and cold protection can be controlled. It prefers acidic media and does not appreciate drying out.
Care notes
Use acid-loving media, rainwater or low-alkalinity water when possible, and gentle fertilizer with micronutrients. Protect from frost and harsh drying wind.
